Case Discussion

Pellegrini-Stieda lesions are longitudinal linear opacity at the inner aspect of the medial femoral condyle, which represents the calcification of the medial collateral ligament insertion at the femoral condyle.

When it is accompanied by pain or restricted motion of the knee joint, then it is called Pellegrini-Stieda syndrome.

This calcification, which is resulted from trauma, typically is not detected radiographically until at least three weeks after the initial trauma.

It is important to distinguish this lesion from the avulsion fracture of medial femoral condyle (a piece of the bone will be displaced away from its attachment site).
