Penetrating neck injury

Presentation

Fall over with self removed penetrating neck injury.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
ct

Penetrating left neck injury between level of hyoid bone and angle of mandible. Defect in the left sternocleidomastoid muscle, which is also swollen. Defect come close to the left internal jugular vein but there is no evidence of venous or arterial injury. Few locules of gas deep to the sternocleidomastoid.

Case Discussion

This is an example of a zone 2 injury, which occur between the cricoid cartilage to the angle of the mandible.
