Presentation
Stab wound 8 cm blade left chest and right back. Haemodynamically stable.
Patient Data
Penetrating injury through the left axilla traversing the second intercostal space, with a left upper lobe pulmonary laceration. Left hemopneumothorax. Ground glass opacity in the left base. Right lung and pleural space are clear.
Extensive left axilla/chest wall/neck subcutaneous emphysema with pneumomediastinum. No evidence of left subclavian arterial or venous injury. Subcutaneous emphysema also in the paraspinal muscles / back, mainly on the right.
Case Discussion
Right side chest stabbing has resulted in a pulmonary laceration and hemopneumothorax with extensive subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum.
