Perforated appendicitis

Abdominal pain, tender in the right iliac fossa. Febrile.

Patient Data

Age: 65-year-old
Gender: Female

CT Abdomen and pelvis

The appendix is markedly thickened and there is free gas and phlegmon within the right iliac fossa. There is a collection adjacent extending to the right adnexa and pouch of Douglas. There is thickening of the adjacent sigmoid which is likely secondary.

There are several lesions within the uterus, probably representing fibroid.

Case Discussion

This case represents an acute appendicitis with perforation and abscess formation.
