Perforated sigmoid diverticular disease into the retroperitoneum

Known diverticular disease. Now left iliac fossa pain.

Patient Data

Age: 66
Gender: Female

AXR: performed to determine if a bowel obstruction is present

Free gas outling the left psoas muscle.  No features of bowel obstruction.


CT to confirm findings and determining underlying cause

Sigmoid perforation with localized gas in the central pelvis entering the retroperitoneum and passing in a cephalad direction adjacent to the left psoas muscle.
