Case Discussion

There are multiple causes of calcification in and around the heart: fortunately, the appearance is usually distinctive. Coronary atherosclerotic calcifications have the same appearance as vascular calcifications elsewhere in the body. Myocardial calcifications from prior myocardial infarction frequently involve the left ventricular apex in the distribution of the left anterior descending artery. Peripheral calcifications like this are located in the pericardium and are associated with constrictive pericarditis.
