Peripelvic cysts (MR urography)

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Presentation

Suspected hydronephrosis on a routine ultrasound examination.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
MRI

Fluid-filled branching cavities in both renal pelvices with non-dilated calyces, suggestive of peripelvic cysts.

Excretory MR urography (3D FSPGR), shows the smooth mass effect upon the renal calyces, which are proved not to be dilated.

Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.

Case Discussion

The fluid-filled branching cavities in both renal pelvices are not dilated calyces, but peripelvic cysts, as could be proven by MRU.
