Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a well-defined lesion in the anterolateral side of the left distal third leg. The lesion is heterogeneously hypoechoic without calcification/ cystic changes. There is acoustic enhancement. A subcutaneous nerve enters and exits the lesion. The lesion is eccentric to the nerve. There is vascularity in the lesion. The cine loop extending craniocaudally shows the intermediate dorsal cutaneous branch of the superficial nerve entering and exiting the lesion.

Surgery revealed the lesion eccentric to the nerve. Excision was done.

Case Discussion

The case shows a subcutaneous solid lesion in the distal leg. The intermedial dorsal cutaneous branch of the superficial peroneal nerve enters and exits the lesion favoring a peripheral nerve sheath tumor.

The lesion was excised. The histopathology revealed the lesion being a schwannoma.
