Peritoneal and pleural tuberculosis

Presentation

Three month history of weight loss. Presented with shortness of breath and distended abdomen.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Right pleural effusion, with underlying pleural nodularity.

Small-moderate amount of ascites. Peritoneal nodularity, as well as nodular omental thickening. 

Case Discussion

The main differential diagnoses for this case would be

  • malignancy
  • TB infection

Biopsy was performed of the terminal ileum which demonstrated non-necrotizing granulomatous inflammation, with a positive mycobacterium TB PCR.
