Peritoneal calcification

Case contributed by Zach Drew
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

History of peritoneal dialysis for ESRF

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Extensive peritoneal calcifications. Extensive vascular calcifications also noted.

ct

Extensive peritoneal calcifications are appreciated, presumably secondary to the patient's end stage renal failure and peritoneal dialysis. Other findings include a loculated fluid collection in the left flank and stable cystic structure in the right adnexa, likely chronic fluid collections from previous peritoneal dialysis. Both kidneys appear atrophic. Moderate fecal loading of the large bowel.

Case Discussion

Peritoneal calcification is a recognized potential consequence of long term peritoneal dialysis. See the article on peritoneal calcification for further differentials.
