Peritoneal tuberculosis

Case contributed by Dr Fazel Rahman Faizi

Abdominal pain, distension, nausea, vomiting, fever and night sweats for two weeks.

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male

Diffuse abnormal peritoneal thickening (arrowhead), omental thickening, moderate ascites with internal echoes and abnormal mural thickening of the bowel loops predominantly in the right iliac fossa.

Case Discussion

Peritoneal and omental thickening along with ascites (septated, fine septated or internal echoes) are strongly suggestive of peritoneal tuberculosis. CT and ultrasonography should be used together to correctly diagnose peritoneal tuberculosis.
