Presentation

Severe sore throat and fever for the past 2 days.

Age: 18 years
Gender: Male

2.7cm rim enhancing right peritonsillar abscess, with resultant distortion of the upper airway.

Case Discussion

Peritonsillar abscess (quinsy) is a collection of pus that lies between the tonsillar capsule and superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle. It is thought to be a result of tonsillitis.

Surgical drainage is usually required, as it was in this case.
