Info

The CT images demonstrate a hypodense fluid collection with peripheral enhancement within the right tonsilar region, extending to the ipsilateral parapharyngeal, and submandibular spaces as well as the retropharyngeal space. Bilateral reactive lymph nodes are noted.
Case Discussion
CT features are consistent with a peritonsillar abscess. The retropharyngeal extension is considered as one of the complications.
Differential diagnosis include
- tonsillitis with phlegmon
- intratonsillar abscess
- retropharyngeal abscess
