Age: 60
Gender: Female

This patient was being evaluated for dementia. There is a mild brain atrophy, but no relevant specific features. A left perivascular space enlargement is noted within a vessel.

Case Discussion

Perivascular spaces, also known as Virchow-Robin spaces, are pial lined interstitial fluid filled spaces that surround perforating vessels. They do not have a direct connection with the subarachnoid space and in fact the fluid within them is slightly different.
