Peroneal neruropathy - ganglion cyst

Case of foot drop - 1 mth. No trauma. NCV - Postive. Referred to localized mass lesion along Common peroneal nerve.

Patient Data

Age: 30 yrs
Gender: Female

Common peroneal nerve tracing is done from its origin to division. A lobulated cystic lesion is noted between common peroneal nerve and fibular head. Lesion elevates nerve from fibular head. Nerve is flattened here. But fasciles are closely oriented. No displaced fasciles are noted. Lesion size - 28 x 27 x 20 mm.  Neck of cyst could not be tracted. No obvious extension to proximal tibio-fibular joint is noted. Thin incomplete septa are noted in the lesion. No calcification / vascularity is noted in the lesion.

 Superficial peroneal nerve tracing is done upto its lower leg. Deep peroneal nerve tracing is done in proximal 3 - 4 cm. No nerve sheath tumor or perineural mass lesion is seen.

This case illustrates  a gangalion cyst compressing common perioneal nerve.
