Presentation
Right ankle pain.
Patient Data

Abnormal intrasubstance increased signal and thickening is present along the course of peroneus brevis tendon at the level of the lateral malleolus and peroneal tubercle related to tendinosis.
The fluid signal also is seen around the peroneal tendons related to tenosynovitis.
Mortise joint effusion is noted.
Calcaneal spur and type I navicular bone are seen.
Case Discussion
Peroneal tendinosis is an irritation to the tendons that move in a groove, posterior to bony prominence on the lateral aspect of the ankle. The tendons involved are the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis. The tendinosis usually occurs because these tendons are subject to excessive repetitive forces during standing and walking.
