Peroneus brevis split tear

Right foot chronic pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

A longitudinal tear of the peroneus brevis tendon is visible, starting from the level of the lateral malleolus, giving the tendon a U-shaped appearance, with its fibers surrounding the peroneus longus tendon. 

Tenosynovitis in the peroneal tendon sheath is also present.

Case Discussion

Peroneus brevis tendon tears are acute or chronic, and may be asymptomatic or associated with lateral ankle pain and/or instability. They commonly occur at the level of the retromalleolar groove.
