Persistent hypoglossal artery and bovine arch

- large persistent hypoglossal artery arising from the distal right cervical ICA at the level of C2/3
- the vessel passes through an enlarged hypoglossal canal to join the basilar artery
- absent right vertebral artery and diminutive left vertebral artery noted
- no aneurysms or large vessel occlusion
- bovine aortic arch also noted

This case illustrates two vascular anatomical variants of both the aortic arch (bovine arch) and of the persistent carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomoses (persistent hypoglossal artery)
