Persistent left superior vena cava

Young female with leukaemia, underwent Hickman line insertion.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Chest radiograph shows atypical course of the Hickman line.

Left-sided superior vena cava (SVC) draining into the right atrium via the coronary sinus. No right SVC. Features are consistent with persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC).

Case Discussion

Persistent left superior vena cava is the most common congenital vascular anomaly in the chest. It occurs in almost 0.5% of the population.
