Persistent trigeminal artery

Case contributed by Dr Anthony Nuñez

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Arterial anastomosis is seen between the basilar artery and left ICA (posterior circulation and anterior circulation) with a parasellar course.

Case Discussion

This is the commonest carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomosis, being a remnant of embryonic circulatory system. It is essential to identify its presence to inform clinicians who will perform invasive studies of the cerebral vasculature or sellar region surgeries. There is also an association with aneurysms.
