7-year-old boy complains of right hip pain and walking difficulty

Gender: Male

The x-ray shows collapse of the femoral head with fragmentation and sclerosis of the femoral epiphysis. There is also enlargement and deformation of the femoral neck (coxa magna).

CT confirms the fragmentation and the sclerosis of the femoral epiphysis. There is widening of the joint space of the right hip. The femoral neck is widened and deformed (coxa magna).

Case Discussion

Seven year old child presented with right hip pain and difficulty walking. CT scan shows signs of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease as sclerosis and fragmentation of the femoral epiphysis, enlargement of the hip joint line with the sign of coxa magna which is enlargement and deformity of the femoral neck.
