Presentation

Difficulty swallowing and difficult oesophageal intubation at endoscopy.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Barium swallow

Barium pools in an outpouching lying left posterolateral to the hypopharyngeal esophagus at the level of the cervicothoracic junction. No other abnormalities.

Case Discussion

These are classic appearances of a pharyngeal pouch, also known as a Zenker diverticulum.
