Case Discussion

PA chest x-ray of a teen-aged female demonstrates extensive abnormalities of the lung parenchyma characterized by the presence of multiple ring shadows and tram-track opacities. These are more pronounced centrally and are symmetric. A PICC line is in situ.

Findings are consistent with bronchiectasis (patient has known cystic fibrosis).

Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are increasingly common in the oncology setting and amongst patients with chronic diseases.
