Pigmented villonodular synovitis - knee

Presentation

Left knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Male

Extensive villous shaped synovial thickening along with hemosiderin staining and low signal on both T1 and T2 weighted sequences in the expanded joint space are seen. Blooming artifact also is present in the synovium. 

There are also erosions of the adjacent bones, subchondral bone marrow edema, and cystic changes. 

Case Discussion

This case shows the typical appearances of pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the knee.
