Pineal tumor - histology unknown

Case contributed by David Cuete
Diagnosis almost certain

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

CT brain

ct

Computed tomography shows a rounded mass in the pineal region and presented small peripheral calcifications. This mass significantly enhances after intravenous contrast injection. Lateral ventricles with mild dilatation.

Supratentorial parenchyma preserved with good gray matter-white matter differentiation. Not observed deviation from the midline or mass effect. Posterior fossa and brainstem without significant alteration.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with a tumor of the pineal region. By the looks of small peripheral calcifications can be considered a pineocytoma, a pineoblastoma seems less likely.
