Presentation
Adult presenting with headache and visual problems.
Patient Data
This MRI shows a large pituitary macroadenoma.
Not only does it grow superiorly (displacing and compressing the optic chiasm) it also invades the sphenoid sinus anteriorly.
Case Discussion
Pituitary tumors are common with studies suggesting a prevalence of 1 in 1000.
Often tumors of this size are managed surgically (usually trans-sphenoidal resection) but medical management (e.g. bromocriptine) can be used for some smaller lesions.
All cases should have a multi-disciplinary approach with neurosurgery, ophthalmology and endocrine input and management.
