Pituitary microadenoma

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

A young female was referred for evaluation of primary infertility. She had elevated serum prolactin level.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Conventional MR sequences was done Later MR dynamic study for pituitary gland was done The last five images are from dynamic series Each was auquired at 45 seconds interval during the course of injection of contrast agent. The images show a probable microadenoma.

Case Discussion

Care must be taken in interpreting peripheral areas of delayed enhancement in pituitaries when the endocrinological abnormalities are not well defined. "Elevated prolactin" is common (see elevated prolactin - differential diagnosis) and can be due to many different causes. Similarly, infertility has many causes. 

As such prolactin levels need to be obtained to allow appropriate interpretation.
