Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
mri

A small (4 x 3 x 3 mm) well-defined hypoenhancing lesion in the right half of the anterior pituitary gland. The rest of the sellar and parasellar structures appear normal.

Case Discussion

Microadenomas typically demonstrate hypoenhancement on dynamic contrast-enhanced sequences (not provided in this case). On delayed images, they can be of variable enhancement compared to the surrounding normal anterior pituitary gland.

This patient demonstrated high prolactin levels on two occasions and the diagnosis is therefore most likely that of a microadenoma. It should be remembered that elevated prolactin does not necessarily mean that this is a prolactinoma or even an adenoma.
