Patient Data

Age: 22 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

A well-demarcated hypoechoic lesion having few internal echogenic septa is seen in the placenta at the site of cord insertion projecting into the amniotic cavity. The lesion shows significant internal vascularity upon color doppler.

Case Discussion

The above mentioned findings are most likely suggestive of placental chorioangioma. Large placental chorioangiomas can cause vascular shunting and hydrops fetalis. Other complications include fetal thrombocytopenia, placental abruption, preeclampsia, and IUGR. Our case remained asymptomatic.
