Plantar fasciitis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Left mid foot plantar region pain with swelling for the last few months. No history of trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is no fracture/ dislocation/ bone lesion. There is no plantar calcaneal bone spur.

ultrasound

At the site (mid-foot plantar region) of pain and swelling pointed by the patient, there is a fusiform thickening of the plantar fascia. About 20 mm length of the fascia is involved. Just distal to the thickening, the fascia divides into five heads. The fibrillary echopattern of the thickened fascia is maintained without any nodule formation. There is perifascial edema at the affected site. There is no local hypervascularity.

Proximal fascia shows normal echopattern and thickness.

The asymptomatic side was examined for comparison and shows normal plantar fascia.
