Planum sphenoidale meningioma

Case contributed by Dr Saeed Soltany Hosn

Progressively increasing headache and binocular visual loss for one year.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

CT scan shows an extra axial soft tissue mass lesion with extensive peritumoral brain edema which surprisingly extends to the right hemisphere. There is also extension to the sellar region.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent a bifrontal craniotomy, with gross near total resection of the tumor. Histopathology confirmed the mass as meningioma. In my own experience this form of edema, in the floor of the anterior cranial fossa, is only due to the meningioma.
