Presentation

Left parotid lump

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

There is a well-marginated mass involving the inferior portion of the superficial lobe of the left parotid gland. The lesion elicits an intermediate signal to the adjacent muscles on T1WI and a very high signal on T2WI with heterogenous post-contrast enhancement. The lesion measures 22x22x18 mm in its maximum dimensions.
There is no cervical lymphadenopathy.

Case Discussion

Histology report:

Specimen: Left parotid FNA.

Clinical details: 22mm left parotid mass, likely pleomorphic adenoma.

Macro: 2 x air dried slides, 2 x wet fixed slides.

Cytology: This specimen contains groups of benign epithelial cells with fibrillary background substance. The appearances are consistent with pleomorphic adenoma.
