Pleomorphic adenoma - submandibular gland

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right submandibular region lump for the last few weeks. No fever or local pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

The right submandibular gland shows a well-defined homogeneous hypoechoic lesion (16 x 13 x 13 mm) without calcification/ cystic spaces. There is no intralesional flow signal. Flow signals are present at the junction of the lesion and gland parenchyma. The rest of the gland shows normal echopattern without dilated ducts.

The left submandibular gland and superficial lobes of both parotid glands show normal echopattern, size without focal lesion/ dilated ducts. The thyroid gland shows normal echopattern without focal lesion. There is no cervical lymphadenopahty.

Case Discussion

A patient had a painless lump in the right submandibular region for the last few weeks. FNA was done first which revealed the lesion being a pleomorphic adenoma.

An ultrasound was done later which showed a well-defined hypoechoic lesion in the right submandibular gland.
