Pleomorphic parotid adenoma

Case contributed by Dr Saad Ahmed Saad Hassan

Presentation

Right parotid mass.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years.
Gender: Male
MRI

There is a sharply marginated, oval mass involving the tail of the right parotid gland, it elicits a low signal intensity on T1-weighted images and very high signal intensity on T2-weighted images with intense post-contrast enhancement. The mass measures 2 x1.7 x 1.6 in its CC, AP and TS diameters.

Case Discussion

CYTOLOGY:

Cellular smears show an abundance of fibromyxoid fibrillery matrix material with spindle cells and plenty of plasmacytoid epithelial cells in the background. Overall, the appearances favor a cellular pleomorphic adenoma, myoepithelial rich.
