There is airspace opacification in the left lung. This is associated with a complex left-sided pleural effusion which is most pronounced in the left hemithorax peripherally. The findings are consistent with left-sided pneumonia and empyema.

Plain radiograph findings of left-sided community-acquired pneumonia and empyema in a pediatric patient with increased work of breathing.
The child was admitted to hospital and improved after a course of intravenous antibiotics.
