Presentation

Chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Loculated left sided pleural effusion extending into the oblique fissure.

Associated left lower lobe volume loss.

Loculated left pleural effusion that contains gas and with enhancing pleural margins. Associated atelectasis. Left hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. 

Case Discussion

The patient proceeded to VATS with a left sided empyema confirmed that required decortication.
