Presentation

Bilateral cheek swelling and pain in an 8 year old girl.

Age: 8
Gender: Female
Modality: CT

There are multiple bilateral scattered small foci of air
within the parotid gland parenchyma. There are also bilateral punctate
hyperdensities in the parotids on both sides consistent with sialoliths.

 

Case Discussion

Pneumoparotid is air within the parotid gland. This is caused by reflux of intra-oral air into the parotid gland through Stensen’s duct and is associated with increases intra-oral pressure.
