Non-Contrast CT

Foci of air are seen in the parotid gland bilaterally

Case Discussion

This occurs after an increase in intrabuccal pressure and occurs as an incidental finding if the patient is blowing cheeks while CT scanning.

Although it is associated with adult occupations such as glass blowing and trumpet playing, it commonly occurs in children who cause retrograde insufflation of air into the gland via Stensen duct.

Recurrent painless soft tissue glandular fullness usually establishes the diagnosis
