Case contributed by Konstantin Benno Bräutigam

ICU patient. Placement of central venous line via left jugular vein.

A significant pneumothorax with clearly visible pleural edge on the left is seen. No subcutaneous emphysema, no mediastinal shift.

Case Discussion

Pneumothorax is common after placement of central venous catheters. Chest radiographs should be used to assess positioning and to rule out pneumothorax.
