Trauma Series

x-ray

Right sided pneumothorax in a trauma patient with pleural edge clearly visible. This appearance is more typical of an erect image pneumothorax than a supine image pneumothorax, but nonetheless this patient was supine. Note how the sharp algorithm image can enhance the lung vessels and make the pneumothorax more conspicuous. This sharp algorithm also helps with visualization of lines and tubes although none were present in this patient. Subtle fracture of the right 7th rib is seen laterally. Pelvic radiograph shows a pelvic binder applied externally with right sided pubic rami and sacral ala fractures. The pubic symphysis and sacroiliac joints are normally aligned.

Case Discussion

Trauma series radiographs showing a right sided pneumothorax, right 7th rib fracture laterally, right pubic rami fractures and right sacral ala fracture.
