Case contributed by Dr Varun Babu

Family history of adult polycystic disease, presented with pain in epigastric region.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Multiple thin walled cysts of varying sizes are seen involving extensively both lobes of liver. No biliary radicle dilatation. apart from one subcentimetric cyst in each kidney, there is no renal or pancreatic cysts. Some of the cysts show high T1 and T2 signals within, appearing homogeneously anechoic in ultrasound.

Case Discussion

Polycystic disease sparing renals is a very rare presentation. Cysts as they enlarge, stretch the liver capsule and can cause discomfort to the patient. Occurrence of hemorrhage within also results in pain.
