Presentation
Splenomegaly with known myeloproliferative neoplasm JAK-2 V617F mutation diagnosed 8 years ago
Patient Data
Heterogeneous vascular mass overlying pancreas. Splenomegaly. No other findings from the rest of the upper abdominal parenchymal organs.
Massive splenomegaly (23 cm in maximal coronal diameter).
Porto-systemic collaterals identified mostly around the spleen.
Splenic vein is not identified likely due to a chronic thrombo-occlusive disorder.
Case Discussion
Patient with a diagnosis of polycythemia vera eight years ago presented with palpable spleen and referred for ultrasound.
A vascular mass identified obscuring pancreas on ultrasound and patient referred by the radiologist for CT. Subsequent CT study shows occluded splenic vein and portosystemic collaterals.
This case study shows chronic abdominal manifestations of polycythemia vera.
