Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Both hands

x-ray

Supernumerary digit originating from the ulnar margin (postaxial polydactyly). Duran classification type IVA (fusion of the metacarpal) on the left and type II (hypoplastic proximal phalanx) on the right.

Presence of two metal screws in the proximal phalanx of the second left digit (post-fracture).

Both feet

x-ray

Supernumerary toes originating from the lateral margin of the 5th toe bilaterally (postaxial polydactyly). Duran classification type IVA (fusion of the metacarpal) on the right and left.

Presence of bilateral calcaneal enthesophytes.

Case Discussion

The patient has recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis; radiographs were indicated for monitoring. History of asymptomatic polydactyly without other malformations or syndromes, and previous fracture of the left index finger. Radiographs demonstrate postaxial polydactyly in all four extremities.
