Left popliteal fossa swelling post penetrating trauma

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Outpouching from the posterior aspect of the left popliteal artery with small neck shows turbulent forward and backward flow giving a characteristic yin-yang sign with marginal thrombotic formation.

Case Discussion

False aneurysm is abnormal outpouchings of the artery bounded by the outermost layer (tunica adventitia) of the arterial wall.

Spontaneous or idiopathic pseudoaneurysm of the popliteal artery is rare yet the most common cause is trauma.
