Portal vein thrombosis

Patient with diffuse colitis. Search for possible neoplasm associated.

Age: 59
Gender: Female

CT Abdomen

CT revealed abnormal liver perfusion associated with heterogeneity of contrasting on portal vein, ill-defined. Associated with ascites and splenomegaly (signs of portal hypertension).


Ultrasound: immediately following CT

Echogenic material within the dilated portal vein. Diffuse heterogeneity of hepatic parenchyma. Associated with ascites and splenomegaly.

Case Discussion

The portal vein thrombosis is the most common cause of pre-liver portal hypertension.
