Moderate distention of the bowel loops with intra-mural gas, suggestive of necrotizing enterocolitis. No free intraperitoneal gas is identified.

Linear lucencies are seen over the liver shadow, mostly portal venous gas.

Case Discussion

Portal venous gas in adults is a pre-morbid finding. In neonates, portal venous gas is still a sign of serious but not quite critical condition.
