Post embolisation syndrome

Case contributed by Dr Chris O'Donnell

Admitted with increasing pain, fever and feeling unwell post embolisation of right kidney for bleeding following partial resection

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Female

CT angiogram performed to exclude on-going bleeding

Large haematoma is associated with a partially infarcted right kidney post embolisation (see coils in right renal artery). Note the gas bubbles in the infarcted upper pole. These do not mean abscess but are typically seen after embolisation as part of the syndrome.
