Post injection myositis - thigh

Presentation

History of vaccination Injection in the thigh five 5 days back. Complaining of fever and local thigh pain for the last one day.

Patient Data

Age: 5 yrs
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The vastus lateralis muscle belly shows an ill-defined area of hypoechoic echo pattern, outward bulging of fibro adipose septa. No floating echoes. Approximate size - 60 (craniocaudal) x 25 (transverse) x 20 mm (anteroposterior) mm. Local hypervascularity present. No femur cortical erosion/ subperiosteal collection. No extension into other muscles. No thrombosis of the femoral artery.

Case Discussion

Findings favor post-injection vastus lateralis myositis without abscess formation.
