Presentation
Left mastectomy for breast cancer three years ago, now swelling along the incisional site.. Clear fluid drained once a week with a needle and syringe. To rule out seroma.
Patient Data
Clear free fluid with through-transmission along the left breast's previous incisional scar site at the level of the fibroglandular/mammary region with the mentioned fluid seen freely peripherally surrounding the ipsilateral Cooper's ligaments (CL) and the mammary parenchymal tissues. The fluid measures approximately 2 cm in depth at the deepest pocket along the inner quadrant, 9 o'clock plane.
The rest of the breast tissues on both lateral and the axillary regions grossly look normal.
Case Discussion
Clear anechoic left breast fluid content along the previous ipsilateral incisional scar site in a known breast cancer post mastectomy ipsilaterally. The left breast Cooper's ligaments and the breast tissues along the mentioned scar site are relatively suspended within the fluid. No tenderness elicited on graded probe pressure over the fluid.
Cytology findings from fine needle aspiration of the fluid show clear serous fluid void of bacterial or haematocyte components, thus reinforcing the diagnosis.
