ultrasound

A well defined hypoechoic lesion in a surgical scar.

Case Discussion

This is the typical appearance of a mature seroma. Once they develop the almost nodular margins (just next to the letter "C" anteriorly)  on ultrasound they usually are stable. Initially they look just like fat necrosis but the fat necrosis is not usually seen with such a thick capsule. The differentiation with an abscess is there is no surrounding edema and on Doppler these lesions do not light up.
